What’s your favourite tree? Is it the exotic leafed Ginko Biloba or a native Silky Oak?

These are just two of the trees, along with fruit and nut trees, native screening plants and vegetables, herbs and berries required for the productive garden we are establishing as part of our CARE Sanctuary.

We are seeking donations of money to help purchase plants, pots, raised garden beds and garden seats. These donations will make a great legacy for yourself or one of your family members, with all contributions acknowledged within the garden. Large trees are $500, small trees $350 and $250 for planter boxes. The trees and boxes will be sourced by Yackandandah Health with the donated funds. You can nominate one of these categories or make a general donation via our GiveNow site.

So, what’s the CARE Sanctuary and garden?

Our CARE Sanctuary will provide a therapeutic space for people of all ages to interact with, and enjoy, animals and the garden. It was funded by the Victorian government’s Pick My Project initiative that saw the Yackandandah community vote for this as one of two important projects for the town. The project funds meet the animal sanctuary and building costs.

We are currently awaiting a building permit to proceed but you can read more about the CARE Sanctuary here. You will also find information on the CARE Sanctuary Working Groups and the many talented local people who have donated their time and expertise behind the scenes.

There are still plenty of opportunities to get involved! If you’d like to learn more about the Working Groups or future working bees please contact Tijana Simic.
