Last night more than 40 people attended our Annual General Meeting where we thanked John Brader and Nelson McIntosh for their years of service on the Committee of Management and welcomed Matt Grogan to the fold.
President Donald Crosthwaite welcomes Matt Grogan to the Committee of Management after his election at the AGM.
We also have a casual vacancy on the Committee so if you would like to join us, please get in touch.
Geraldine Miles, our Nurse Unit Manager was presented with the Doris Croucher Scholarship and spoke about her six months of study to complete the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. This qualification allows Yackandandah Health to manage our own clinical placements, introducing nursing students to a career in aged care nursing.
Geraldine Miles, Nurse Unit Manager was presented with the Doris Croucher Scholarship.
President, Donald Crosthwaite highlighted the two main focuses for our organisation – the quality of the facility and the caring staff. It is a privilege to be entrusted to care for our elders.
We achieved an occupancy rate of 99.18% for the year (our KPI is 100% occupancy so this really means we had 99.18% occupancy). In addition, our operating surplus after depreciation was $390,872, highlighting the financially responsible way we operate. We have a very conservative depreciation policy from 5% – most organisations factor in 2.5% depreciation.
The year saw a lot of the Committee’s planning come to fruition. Work has started on the construction of Stage 1 which comprises a double-storey building offering 16 residential aged-care rooms upstairs and 10 assisted living apartments for individuals or couples downstairs. The apartments feature kitchens, lounge rooms and courtyard gardens, and the complex also offers shared communal and service areas, such as a residents’ laundry.
We continued to update and refresh our residential aged care living spaces and made improvements in the kitchen.
In September we took over the operation of the Medical Centre as an important service for local and district residents. The support has already been strong and we plan to increase the number of days we have a doctor available.
Last November we joined in the visit from Gardening Australia as part of the ABC Back Roads event and Costa Georgiadis was a big hit with our residents and the Ladies’ Auxiliary.
We also revisited our branding and launched our new website which has set the foundations for our communication and planning for the opening of the Stage 1 building in the middle of next year, while we continue planning for Stage 2.
Stage 2 is a community hub that will facilitate a range of community activities and health and wellbeing services that will allow our residents to interact more with the community. To ensure this building will be able to accommodate these needs, we consulted the community and set up a Community Reference Group to provide input.
We continue to be well supported by our staff, volunteers and the community through many avenues and thank you for your involvement.
