After a week of refurbishment, Yackandandah Health will re-open its Medical Centre on Monday, which will initially be staffed three days a week.

Yackandandah Health CEO, Annette Nuck, said the Committee of Management made the decision to save the provision of GP services for the town by taking over operation of the centre.

“We believe it’s vital for our growing town to have a comprehensive medical service and Yackandandah is known for working to keep essential services operating. We see retaining GP services as a positive move and one that supports other local businesses,” Ms Nuck said.

“We’ve had a really supportive response from the community since our announcement in July.

“Initially the Medical Centre will be open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for appointments between 9am and 4pm but with increasing demand, our aim is to have it open five days a week,” she said.

Ms Nuck said this week, while systems were installed and renovations were being undertaken, the Medical Centre operated from Yackandandah Health’s former hospital building.

“I would like to thank the community for their support so far. This week, despite not having ideal facilities, there was steady demand for appointments. Those people who needed to see a doctor were happy to support us and understood the temporary arrangements for the week. We also thank Dr Tess Goodwin who has agreed to be our main doctor initially.”

Yackandandah Health is a progressive provider of aged care and allied health services that pursues innovative, inclusive approaches to meet community health needs. While it currently delivers a high-quality lifestyle for its 67 aged residents, work will start later this month to build homes for up to 36 people as part of its $14million, four-stage development. This is part of its plan to adopt the European model of multi-generational accommodation and to facilitate more community interaction for residents.
