Yackandandah Health will open a childcare centre at the end of this year.

CEO, Annette Nuck said she is currently working through the registration process and plans for building renovations.

“A childcare centre on our site is one of the key elements in the intergenerational model we are developing. There’s a lot to do but it’s an exciting time for us and the community,” Ms Nuck said.

“We’ve already had buildings inspected and assessed for suitability. Soon the community will see renovation works start. We will also be advertising for a childcare centre team leader to help us deliver the service,” she said.

Yackandandah Health is home to 67 aged care residents, has a medical centre and offers allied health services on its site in Isaacs Avenue. It is building 16 new residential aged care rooms and 10 apartments. This building is due for completion in September.

“The next stage of our plans was to develop the community hub to offer health and wellbeing facilities and services for the whole community. Recently a group of parents came to us seeking a childcare centre with a community focus, so this project has been prioritised because it’s such a good fit,” Ms Nuck said.

“In promoting our vision, we were looking for partners to deliver the intergenerational model. Parents are among those we wanted to attract to our services and given they are raising our town’s future residents, it’s a perfect opportunity.

“The vision for the Yackandandah model is that the community hub becomes a vibrant part of our community – we will have a café and be home to other services including childcare, events will take place here and there will be people coming and going to use the pool, gym, health services and meeting spaces.”
